about

“Hugely enjoyable, highly original AND psychically useful is the music of Australian duo The Scrapes, whose fiery epic guitar and abandoned fiddle pieces evoke images of lost lands inundated by the oceans, lost Iberian & Armorican sea peoples and lost times from beyond the beyond. Mostly, violinist Adam Cadell conjures up a fabulous and heathen see-sawing from his machine, kicking up a down home/back porch Henry Flynt-ian dust that guitarist/axe wielder Ryan Potter orchestrates with apocalyptic power chords and huge crunching rhythms.” – Julian Cope

The Scrapes are a Queensland-based duo creating music born of a language honed over more than 15 years of playing together. Formed in Meanjin in 2009, and now based in Meanjin and Gimuy, Adam and Ryan have forged a sound all of their own that reaches out from a solid droning bedrock of electric guitar and violin. Recorded over multiple sessions since around 2015, The Sun Never Rises Over Mount Sorrow is their fourth full-length album, two mountainous sides of perilous journey to transcend and up-end.
